The Generation U athletes, boys from the Steamboat Springs High School football and baseball teams, truly represent the goals of Generation U. They represent the link between Steamboat and Uganda and the next generation’s inspiration to save and change lives.
These boys are unbelievably gifted athletes who can apply their passion to Generation U. Signing with Generation U, just like an athlete would sign with a college or professional team, gave them a purpose bigger than themselves and their community.
The athletes will travel with Generation U to Uganda in February, but already, they have begun working to share their mission and fund wells by nailing their pitch. The boys have presented to groups from children to seniors. They shared Generation U with the fifth-grade classes at Soda Creek Elementary School, the Rotary Club of Steamboat Springs, and the Avenida Lakewood senior apartments.
Generation U is teaching athletes how to apply the accountability they learn about on the field in real life. They are learning to present a mission, campaign donors, and connect with people in entirely different situations than their own. But what really matters is that at the end of the day, they are going to save lives. They are really, actually going to save people. And we think that’s pretty cool.
